Without Chances, There Is No Change: Why I Created Chances.org

I grew up very poor and spent a little time in foster care. As a single mother, I experienced poverty again and lived in mobile homes. Those experiences shaped me, but they did not define the whole story of my life. What helped me keep moving forward was learning to look for chances and deciding to take them, even when I was afraid.

Over the years, I have flipped houses, imported and exported, brokered domain names, bought and sold things, and created dozens of careers for myself. Some opportunities worked well, while others taught me what to try differently next time. I am still creating projects in retirement because I believe life can continue to offer new possibilities.

Why chances matter

A chance can be a large decision, such as starting a business or moving to a new place. It can also be a small step, such as making a phone call, learning a skill, asking for help, applying for an opportunity, or sharing an idea. The right chance is different for every person. What feels manageable to one person may feel enormous to someone else.

Taking a chance does not guarantee a particular result. It means choosing movement instead of remaining frozen by fear. Sometimes the result is success. Sometimes it is information, a new connection, a better question, or the discovery that one path is not the right path. Those lessons can still help a person make a wiser next decision.

Faith, courage, and perseverance

My faith in God has helped me set fear aside and keep trying. I do not mean that fear disappears. It means I try not to let fear make every decision for me. Courage can exist alongside uncertainty. A person can be nervous and still take one useful step.

Perseverance also looks different in different lives. One person may be building a business. Another may be recovering from a setback, searching for work, leaving an unhealthy situation, or trying to believe in a dream again. Progress does not have to be impressive to matter. A small step repeated over time can change the direction of a life.

What Chances.org offers

I created Chances.org to build courage in others and offer tools that can help people pursue success as they define it. The site is for people who need a chance, people who can offer a chance, and people who want encouragement while taking their next step. Success may mean financial stability, creative work, better health habits, a stronger relationship, education, service, or simply a life that feels more like your own.

The site encourages practical support, shared opportunities, useful resources, and positive connections. A chance does not have to be a handout. Sometimes the most helpful gift is information, an introduction, a recommendation, encouragement, or someone willing to listen. People can help one another move forward in many different ways.

If you are looking for a chance, begin by naming what you need. Are you searching for information, a person to talk with, a place to learn, a way to share your work, or encouragement to begin? If you can offer a chance, think about what you already know, who you can introduce, or what practical help you can share. Clear needs and clear offers make it easier for people to connect.

I believe that without chances, there is no change. Every person deserves the opportunity to imagine a better future and take a meaningful step toward it.
